This unique clock is made from a piece of barge board found in New Orleans. "Barge board" refers to a wide plank of wood that was literally taken from the hull of a cargo ship that was floated down the Mississippi during the early settlement of the city. Because navigating the river against the current back to its original port would have been too costly, ships were dismantled once they reached the port of New Orleans and their wood was used to build houses. These "barge boards" are characterized by their substantial width and heft, and this clock is made from one such board that is nearly a foot wide.

The board has been coated with a clear protector to keep the cool original crackled brown and green paint just the way it is. A hanger has been installed on the back of the board for easy hanging. Just add a single AA battery to the back to make it start telling time.
