For your consideration - a beautiful carved and pierced Bakelite brooch. It measures 2.5" x 1" and closes with its original embedded C clasp. The exquisite carving has a bit of a tropical feel, like a stylized palm frond. The color is dark semi-transparent cinnamon. It is polished to a high shine!

But do you "know" Bakelite? Have you rubbed your thumb hard on its surface and smelled that weird hot radio smell? Have you clunked a couple of Bakelite bangles together and grinned at the sound? Have you tested and re-tested to make sure it's authentic period Bakelite? Yes? Then join the club! No? Then let me introduce you to an amazing material that started life in the early 1900s as an industrial plastic and wound up being used to make millions pieces of costume jewelry before, during and after World War II.

SInce this pin closes with a C clasp I will include a pin stopper to ensure it stays on your clothing. If it is a gift let me know and I will gift wrap it for you.

Thanks for dropping by Refined Retro!
