The Hedgehogs pattern is a quick knit with some interesting technique and only two short sewn seams. The finished Hedgehogs are small, cute and cuddly.

For an INTERMEDIATE knitter

SKILLS REQUIRED
Garter (knit) Stitch
Stockinette Stitch
Knitting in the round on double pointed needles
M1L and M1R (or left and right leaning increase)
SSK and K2tog (or left and right leaning decreases)
Sewing together using mattress stitch
Picking Up stitches
Short Row Shaping (fully explained in the pattern)

MATERIALS REQUIRED
Approx 65 (45, 30) yds brown DK yarn
Approx 35 (25, 15) yds white/cream DK yarn
US size 3 (3.25 mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge
US size 3 (3.25 mm) double-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Scrap of pink to embroider nose
Tapestry needle
Fiberfill

Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) compliance statement.
The guidance statement issued by the CPSC on Feb 10th 2009 states that “yarn, dyed or undyed” and “dyed or undyed textiles” are components which “can be used (separately or in combination) and sold (provided they have not been treated or altered or undergone any processing that could result in the addition of lead)”. It also states that until some reliable way to test the levels of phthalates in plastics it is best to avoid plastic buttons unless “you know they don't contain phthalates”. As I know nothing about petrochemical processes I have therefore decided to abstain from the use of plastic buttons in my products until further information is available.
