M3 Metal Pen
Mokume Gane M3 Fountain Pen
High quality handcrafted on a lathe fountain pen
Blue and White M3 metal

This is a unique pen for many reasons. It is a one of a kind handmade pen that is different than any other pen you will find anywhere. I made this fountain pen by hand with a material called M3 metal. M3 stands for Macro Molecular Metal, and is a very special metal material. M3 metal is used on the international space station, on stealth fighter jets, and here on a very special handcrafted fountain pen. Very simply (it gets very involved how m3 is made) a source metal is super heated by shot through hot plasma. This breaks the source metal into a molecular metal (atomizes it). This material is reconstructed back into blocks. It is now M3 metal! Now the m3 metal blocks can be shaped on a lathe to make beautiful fountain pens. M3 is very expensive material that now has some unique properties.

¬ Lighter than the source metal (or metals)
¬ In many cases stronger than the source metal
¬ Surface will patina like source metal
¬ Impervious to almost all chemicals
¬ Will not corrode
¬ Holds a gem quality finish
¬ M3 with high concentrations of copper are antimicrobial and antifouling
¬ Will not conduct electricity
¬ Allows for the re-alloying of dissimilar metals
¬ Scratch resistant

This handcrafted fountain pen is very special, it features blue and white Mokume Gane M3 metal with hand machined stainless steel components. It is one of the highest grade materials I use on pens. I specialize in making M3 metal pens because of the high quality and rarity of M3.

Mokume gane is a Japanese term that literally means “wood eye metal.” It is an old method of metalworking that was invented in the 1600s by master metalworker Denbei Shoami and was used to create adornments on the handles and the hilts of katana, the swords used by the samurai class in medieval Japan. Generally speaking Mokume Gane means: wood grained metal.
This high quality fountain pen is the modern version of Mokume Gane. M3 Composite Industries
originally developed M3 metal for the aerospace industry and the US military.

Trobee Pens specializes in M3 metal pens. Here are other M3 pens I have made recently:

The pen for sale (pictured) is high grade M3 metal composite Galactic Blue / Silver (custom white/silver metal alloy). This white/silver metal exhibits some of M3’s remarkable color changing properties and will look like a very bright silver in direct light and opaque white in indirect light. This magnificent custom blue/white/silver metal re-alloy uses high end m3 composite with a brilliant look.

This is a new style of high end pen that I have fallen in love with. Parts wise it has some of the most expensive pen components on the market. The stainless steel components to this handcrafted fountain pen are machined by hand. Pretty cool. Virtually all of the pen parts you see on etsy or anywhere else for that matter…are not hand machined, they are mass produced. There is nothing wrong with the mass produced parts. I think it is pretty cool that a guy named Mark, in Georgia, made the stainless steel pen components by hand. The metal components are top-notch…just awesome quality.

Close ended pens are harder to make than “regular” pens and require a different set-up. Notice how the end of the pen doesn’t have metal parts. This is close ended. It adds value to a fountain pen to be close ended and in my opinion looks pretty darn cool too.

The handcrafted metal pen components are highly polished stainless steel. The metal parts were hand machined by a man in Georgia, named Mark. Mark owns the “Marksman” pen parts company. I have spoken to Mark via email several times and I can assure you he knows pen parts and has a passion for very high quality. In my humble opinion his handcraftsmanship is unparalleled by anyone in the pen component business. His pen components are expensive…but worth every penny.

Schimdt makes the nib on this handmade one of a kind fountain pen. For 70 years this Germany company (that started as a watch making company) has been making some of this finest precision nibs and writing instrument technology available anywhere. The nib is high-grade and is iridium tipped for a great writing experience! I have had many customers say they like this nib better than their Mont Blanc pens!

Aston’s luxurious leather goods are world-class. I have included a black leather pen sleeve/case with this fountain pen. It should be a great addition and will help protect the pen when you are on the go.

1. The exact fountain pen in the pictures
2. An ink converter for use with bottled inks (not pictured)
3. An in cartridge (not pictured)
4. An Aston leather pen sleeve/case
5. A signed card of handcrafted authenticity
6. A black velvet pen bag
7. My sincere thanks and appreciation for being a customer
