I made this necklace to honor the Dia de los Muertos celebration held in Mexico every year, which honors their dead and celebrates life. A stunning strand of very rare Mexican Fire Opal in colors ranging from deep orange red to nearly clear with beautiful opalescence. The opals range in size from 3-3.5mm and are of superior quality. A common symbol of the Day of the Dead holiday is skulls (calavera in Spanish) and flowers, particularly marigolds, which are thought to attract the souls of the dead.

Mexican Fire Opal is the national gemstone of Mexico, as this is where it is primarily found. Rock strata containing opals run through the Mexican highlands, with their many extinct volcanoes. The Maya and the Aztecs loved this stone and called it quetzalitzlipyollitli (I have absolutely no idea how to pronounce that!), whch means the ‘stone of the bird of paradise’.

The solid silver skull is handcrafted from fine silver (99.9% pure silver) with amazing detail, and flanked by two Thai silver flowers. It's an adjustable length from 16" to 18" with a sterling silver lobster clasp and an added Thai silver flower charm.

Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver, sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver and another metal, usually copper.

FREE shipping in the US, this would be a wonderfully unique gift for a loved one, or yourself!

Frequently asked questions about silverlyjewelry

If you have ordered a ring and the size is not right and you need to have it resized, I will be happy to do it but there is a $15 stocking fee plus shipping costs. So it is much better to have the right size from the beginning! I sell ring sizers, and the cost of the sizer will be refunded to you if you purchase a ring from me after.
For domestic orders I ship USPS First Class Mail, and shipping costs include delivery confirmation. If you prefer Priority Mail, you can choose to upgrade at checkout for an additional $3.75. The USPS says that First Class takes 2-5 days and Priority Mail 1-3 days, but neither is guaranteed in that time frame.

If you need it sooner, please send me a message and we can discuss rates and options.
In regards to customs fees: International customers are responsible for all fees imposed, including import taxes, customs duties, and fees levied by the buyer's country. Additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by the recipient; I have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Customs policies vary widely from country to country; you should contact your local customs office for further information. When customs clearance procedures are required, it can cause delays of weeks or months. I do not refund original shipping charges for buyers who refuse items due to not wanting to pay the customs charges applied by their country.
