These fabulous beads are made in Africa from Vulcanite, a material that was used to make vinyl records. They are known as Vinyl Record Beads, since they are made from the same material. Natively, they are called "jigada beads," which is a really fun name to say!
They are vintage, and hail from Mali. Women wear them around their waist, to help them hold their shape.

These beads are 12x.5mm thick. This is a more traditional color mix, with lots of red, black, and yellow. There are some occasional blue, green, and pink discs mixed in. Nice and BRIGHT! There are HUNDREDS of beads on this 31"+/- strand.

Temporarily strung on thread, you could wear these beads as-is. Or why not cut them apart and make some recycled vinyl magic of your own?
