“Druzy” is a trade name generally used for stones with a bumpy, spiked or crystalline structure on at least 1 surface. The texture is natural to the stone, and responds very beautifully to enhancements. Natural un treated druzy is almost always white, gray, clear or sometimes black, usually very pale or drab looking. The actual material used to make druzies is usually calcite or quartz.
99.99% of all druzy used in jewelry making is either dyed, heated, coated or some combination of those 3. The most popular being a vapor deposit coating which gives them the gorgeous iridescent sparkle. This coating is not paint, it is a very high tech process that produces stable color and does not wear off easily. These are vapor deposit coated.
