Description

As I search for interesting woods to use in my woodturning endeavors, I occasionally encounter what I call "weird woods" ... unusual pieces that beg to be taken home. I don't always know what purpose they could serve, but they're too interesting to leave in the woods.

This piece is a "branch bulge", a hump of wood sliced off a large, dead, fallen Sugar Maple tree. It's hollow, and has a hole where the long-gone branch used to exit the tree trunk. No doubt squirrels and/or birds have made use of the cavity this once created. The branch hole goes all the way through the piece, into the hollow cavity inner side.

So, what could you do with it? Well, the back side of it has been sliced flat so it will hang nicely on a wall (hung on a nail or screw). The branch hole is near the top, so you could put some dried weeds or flowers in it. Or just enjoy it as is. To my way of thinking, it wants to hang vertically, as in the photos; but I suppose it could be laid flat on a table too, if that suits your purpose.

You clever photographers out there could use it as a photo prop.

The piece is in its natural state, weathered and without bark. It has been cleaned by blowing it off with compressed air.

Measurements are: 10 inches across at widest point; 6 inches deep; 22 inches long. It weighs just under 7-1/2 pounds.

The last photo shows the inner, hollow side.

Shipping policies

Items are shipped from Massachusetts, USA.

I will combine ship multiple items in one box if possible, to save shipping costs. Purchases will be shipped promptly upon receipt of payment (if paying by personal check, I will ship once the check clears).

SHIPPING TO USA:

Items will usually be shipped via US Postal Service Priority Mail. Shipments will be insured, with tracking. I occasionally use Standard Post (for large packages) to save you money.

INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING:

I do ship internationally- please contact me for the shipping cost to your country. International shipping can be slow, occasionally several weeks; please be patient. Delays are usually due to the customs agency of the destination country.

"Priority International" is the US Postal Service class I recommend, because insurance is available in this class. Tracking is provided.

"First Class International" is less expensive than Priority, but insurance is not available; if you choose this class, you will be responsible for loss or damage during shipping. Tracking is provided.

International Express shipping is available for an additional charge, but can be costly.
