The Blue Flower, Van Dyke, Henry, (November 10, 1852 – April 10, 1933) Cover Art Decor by Margaret Armstrong and Illustrated in color by various artists including a few by the renounced Howard Pyle. Published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1902. Hardcover. First edition.

This is a gorgeous book by a popular author of his day; bound in blue cloth with gold, green and blue cover décor by the talented Margaret Armstrong. The top-edge of the text block is also gold with otherwise deckled edges.

Days Off and other Digressions, Dyke, Henry Van; Cover Art by Margaret Armstrong; Illustrated by various artists. Charles Scribner's Sons, 1907. Hardcover. First Edition.

An even more beautiful book bound in blue cloth, with Ms. Armstrong’s beautiful gold, blue, green and white floral design on the cover. This title matches “The Blue Flower” in color and has the same edges.

Both Books in Very good condition with only minor wear along the edges of the boards. Both are tight, solid with no markings. Internal text is bright and crisp. No foxing. “Day’s Off” has a small split where the paste down and hinge meet inside the cover. This flaw can be remedied by the new owner with document tape or by a professional book restorer. Page 251 of the Blue Flower has a wrinkle, which I believe was a manufacturing error.

Even after 100 years these books are really beautiful to look at! They are collectible for two reasons, one is the author and the other is the artist Margaret Armstrong.

The Sad Shepherd: A Christmas Story, Van Dyke, Henry, Charles Scribner’s Sons. 1911, 5x8, 56p. Hardcover, green cloth with gold gilt lettering and design on cover and spine. No DJ

This title is in acceptable condition; The top corners of book very worn and the pages are not as bright as the previous two titles, but I’m adding it to this Van Dyke selection because I feel it belongs here. The art work on the cover is still bright and the cloth used for binding this book feels like silk: very smooth. It is inscribed by the previous owner “To Grandma - From Norton - Christmas 1911” Binding is tight and will last another hundred years.

Price of the three books is based on the first two titles. “The Sad Shepherd” is just a bonus book.

Please examine the pictures carefully, I try to photograph all, if any flaws on an item so you don't have any surprises when your item arrives.
