Antique. Authentically rare. A beauty and a find.

Seldom seen RED feather edge pearlware platter from Staffordshire region, England. The characteristic slightly blue tint is seen in some small areas of thicker glaze on bottom.

Early 19th century, c1820-1830, feathered edge and embossed rim w/ slightly notched octagon shape.

Large: 17"l x 13"w x 1 7/8"h from table surface

Unmarked. Shiny, bright surface. Substantial and heavy.

A nearly identical example, though in later ironstone body, is shown on pg. 46 in 'Collector's Guide to Feather Edge Ware: Identification & Values', by Lisa McAllister, 2001 edition. It is categorized as 'rare' and valued at $450.-500. Ms. McAllister states "the more rare a piece, the more damage is acceptable".

Condition: Exceptional, very good+ to excellent w/ overall crazing and some faint age discoloration best seen in very bright, direct sunlight. NO cracks, hairlines, dark stains, heavy utensil marks or repairs observed. One antique, tiny flake/chip on back beneath rim. Short area of minor glaze roughness on one corner of rim. All barely noticeable, insignificant and do not detract from use or display.

Fairly priced. You will look long to find another this fine.

Superb addition to any 19th century Staffordshire pottery, Feather Edge ware, pearlware, white ironstone or English ceramics collection. Truly a timeless design for historic to modern loft spaces.
