Introducing... "The Pineora" ...a handmade mini-nixie tube clock that is probably one of the cutest and smallest on the planet!

Nixie tube clocks blend the spirit, drama and eerie beauty of cold war technology with modern electronics to create uncommon handcrafted timepieces.

This clock is a typical desk-type clock one might find on a bookshelf or desk in an office. However, this clock is quite unique in that is uses genuine vacuum-tube technology to display the time. The use of vacuum tubes in modern electronic appliances is in some sense a way to connect with the past. This clock mixes a little bit of history with modern electronics to create a design ethos combining both the ultra modern 1960s with current retro trends. A simple, sleek design for the wood case was chosen to reflect the minimalist design cues of the late 1950s to the mid 1970s.

This clock is microcontroller controlled, using the Microchip microcontroller chip. The quartz oscillator used is a low-drift temperature-compensated type, giving accurate time for years to come. The clock time base frequency is calibrated using a lab standard frequency counter to ensure extreme accuracy. High voltage is supplied by a high efficiency switching power supply. Nixie tubes, unlike other vacuum tubes, do not have a filament. This has two major impacts on the operational characteristics of the clock. Nixie tubes produce very little heat, and as such, do not require the kind of ventilation that other vacuum tubes need to function. Also, the tubes' operational lifetimes are greatly extended past that of regular vacuum tubes.

This handmade beauty features four Russian type IN-17 nixie tubes housed in a beautiful 3/4" thick Michigan White Pine enclosure. The base is polished black cast acrylic plastic. It is finished in several coats of clear lacquer finish. It has four soft plastic bumpers to protect your furniture. The clock measures 4" wide by 3" tall by 2" deep ...a small clock perfect for a nightstand, desk or anywhere that a small footprint clock is needed. It is powered by the included 9 volt D.C. adapter that will work on North American mains. Of course it can be used anywhere in the world by using any wall adapter that outputs 9 to 12 volts D.C. and current of at least 0.300 Amperes.
