This is a fabulous signed Taxco piece by master silversmith Sigi Pineda. Sigi opened his own shop in 1952. Prior to that he worked at Los Castillo, and with Salvador Teran and Felipe Martinez. Sigi was head of the enameling shop for Margot van Voorhies Carr at Margot de Taxco. He is a master of Mexican modernist silver work.

This bracelet is a hinged bypass style bangle set with large genuine amethyst cabochons. The bracelet has interior dimensions of 1 3/8 by 2 inches. The front design spans an area 2 inches by 1 1/2 inches. The amethyst stones are 18 mm by 13 mm with a dimensional height of 8 mm. This piece is very solid and heavy, weighing in at 1.8 troy ounces, or about 56 grams.

The bracelet is in excellent condition. The sterling has use and wear marks, but no major dents, dings, scratches, or scuffs. The spring functions well. The amethyst cabochons are free of chips, cracks, scratches, or scuffs, but have lots of natural occlusions.

The bracelet is marked with a design number "232", the "36" eagle assay mark, "Sigi Tasco" and a circle mark that says "STERLING MEXICO" with "HECHO EN" across the middle.

A wonderful example of a true artisan at work, and very high quality well made sterling jewelry as well. I have another set (unsigned) but also by Sigi Pineda which can be found here:
