The lid of this handmade box features a bright turquoise dragonfly. There is also a dragonfly on the inside of the box! Our customers love this little "surprise"!
The sides of the box are glazed a wonderful rich turquoise. Steve makes this glaze.

This box would make a wonderfully unique addition to your box collection or a one of a kind gift for any nature lover. It can hold small treasures such as your rings or other small jewelry pieces.

If you do want to send this box as a gift, we will wrap it in colorful tissue and tie a ribbon around it. We are also happy to enclose a personal message from you.

The box is about 2 inches high, 3.25 inches square. It was handmade from slabs of clay. After bisque firing the design was drawn on the box with wax. Glazes were applied by hand.

The box is then placed in a specially built kiln and heated until the glaze has melted. Still glowing with intense heat, it is removed from the kiln. This thermal shock causes the glaze to crackle.

Then the box is placed into a container of sawdust. The sawdust ignites and produces a smoky atmosphere where carbon is absorbed into the unglazed clay and the crackled glaze.

Each piece has its own distinct crackle pattern and is unique in the way the carbon darkens the clay.

*Raku work is not designed to hold water or food.
There are four felt pads on the bottom of the box to protect your furniture.
