About Rotary Revival!

From their original inception in 1891, through their peak in the 1950’s, and up until their tragic demise, at the hand of the touch-tone dial, rotary phones have been a beautiful and integral part of the American life. In the last decade, as home phones have all but disappeared, the few rotary phones left in use are quickly dying with the old people that never replaced them. Sadly, once the most advanced piece of technology in any home, the rotary phone has been relegated to being, at best, a simple piece of useless decor, but in many cases, landfill.

With Rotary Revival, I strive to give new life to these once coveted work horses. In recent years, the Iphone has become the device that so many cannot live without, so what better way to pay respect to its predecessor than giving it new life?

The process begins with searching estate sales, flea markets, and online auctions, for the most interesting and iconic phones. Back at my work shop, I take every precaution to preserve the aesthetic of the phones former life, including, in many cases, whenever possible, leaving the dial card with the original owner’s phone number intact. The phones are carefully dissected and a few of the internal components are removed to make room top quality stereo components. A specially molded ipod/iphone dock is fitted onto the rear of the phone. In the handset, two 47mm aluminum speakers are installed, producing full range sound in a compact package.

A finished Rotary Revival Ipod/Iphone dock will let you enjoy your favorite music anywhere in the house, with the supplied remote giving you full control of your Apple device from across the room. Charging your device while docked, A Rotary Revival phone makes a perfect addition to your desk or nightstand.

Every dock is 100% hand made in the Silver Lake neighborhood of Los Angeles. They are all different, and I never know what I’m going to find when I go looking. The supply I have is constantly changing, and crafting them takes time, so be sure to check back often, and I will post photos of the newest available phones, and where you can get them.

Rotary phones have come in many colors and styles over the years, with some being much rarer than others. If you have a specific phone you are looking for, let me know and I will try to hunt one down. Thanks!
