Dragon plate, Made in occupied Japan dragonware. Unusual example of dragonware, a cerulean blue plate with wispy clouds in the background with a fierce white dragon in the foreground. Of course, dragons probably were inspired by cloud forms - so this seems to suggest the origin of the beast. Please note there is wear to the glaze which you can see in the third photo. It is marked on the bottom "Nichimen, Made in Occupied Japan". Also in this photo please see manufacturing defect in the form of an underglaze dark area under the rim.. The plate is 7 inches in diameter. The Made in Occupied Japan mark dates this to 1946-1952.
