Gorgeous vintage silk purse with medieval tapestries, made exclusively for Walborg in Italy. This 1940s bag has a renaissance type tapestry on each side. On one side a maiden is holding a bird the other a lad with shield on horseback and a maiden. Both sides have lovely floral vines, a banner, and a coat of arms crest. I can't help to think of Shakespeare when I see this lovely piece.

The frame with kiss lock and chain are goldtone and the tapestries are framed with metallic gold crochet. Double the chain to carry as a handheld or over the wrist or single chain as a shoulder bag for versatility. Excellent condition, approximately 70 year old purse has a couple small spots of faint discoloration and one intact pulled thread.

The interior is lined in a golden silk and has a small pocket. Tag reads Made in Italy exclusively for Walborg. There is an ink spot deep inside the liner.

The Walborg Company was started by Hilde Walberg Weinberg in the 1940s in New York City. She designed the purses herself and then sent them to Europe (Belgium,Italy, and Francce) to be made for her Madison Avenue showroom. Starting in the 1950s her designs were made in Hong Kong and others parts of the far east. Walborg purses were well known for their original designs and quality craftsmanship.
