1930's school chart, "Aan Het Strand" (On The Beach) by M.A. Koekkoek. An intriguing oceanside scene featuring seagulls, seals, and a beached shark.

A little history: M.A. Koekkoek painted a series of nature studies (In Ous Land/In Our Country), which were converted into school posters. They were popular in Dutch primary schools until the 1950s.

This piece is an original 1930s school chart. It is linen backed paper nailed to two wooden rods. In good vintage condition, with creasing throughout and paper/linen separation along the edges and corners. Heavier creases in the middle with some small tears at a few of the creases. Top left corner is missing paper. Discoloration in areas, most noticeably above the center gull and along the right side edge of the chart. This area is lighter and the paper is thinner and worn. See photos for details. The linen has separated from two nails holding it to the top rod (see photo #5), but it is secure otherwise and displays very nicely.

36 1/2" wide x 30" tall.
(actual chart measurements are 34 1/2" wide x 28" tall)
