My husband loves working with Shibori. This scarf was carefully bound and dyed using an Arashi pattern.

Arashi, or pole wrapped cloth, is translated as "Storm," and was invented in 1880 by Kanezo Suzuki in Aramatsu. This wonderful technique involves wrapping the fabric tightly around a pole using waxed string to create the fine lines, then compressing the fabric into tight segments and dyeing the piece. The fabric is completely dried and then unwrapped. This process, when used with silk creates deep contrasting patterns which will keep its unique shape and texture as long as the fabric remains dry thus the name memory cloth.
This carefully bound Arashi Shibori was crafted by my husband and is a one of a kind creation.
