This is a form of Intarsia which translates to wood mosaic. I start with a single piece of wood. The picture is drawn directly onto the board. Than each piece is cut, sanded, shaped and painted/stained and glued back together. Shims are applied to certain areas to give it a 3D effect.

The earliest known frog fossils to date were found in Arizona and are believed to be from the late Jurasic period, about 190 million years ago.
