A wonderful set of "1881 Rogers" silverplate flatware in the Lilac Time pattern, made by Oneida Ltd. silversmiths and discontinued in 1957. There are 48 pieces of beautiful mid century silverware in a handsome wood chest, and it even comes with the darling original booklet. Add this set to your Etsy wedding registry to outfit your vintage kitchen in style!

Lilac Time is a superbly designed pattern--the pieces feel substantial and balanced in your hand, and it goes with everything! The spray of flowers recalls turn-of-the-century Oneida patterns like "Queen Bess," but the asymmetrical streamlined handles are decidedly modern. So Lilac Time is equally at home alongside great-grandmother's Victorian china, brightly colored 1950s-style plasticware, or groovy seventies handmade pottery. You will get a ton of use from this set!

Lilac Time is also fun to collect! Many different pieces were made in this pattern, so you can have a good time hunting for the butter dish, pie server, or seafood cocktail fork. It will also be easy to find extra knives and forks to fill out your set for a big dinner party.

The booklet is fabulous, showing smart housewives sharing their beauty secrets for your new silverplate. The guarantee page tells how each piece received a heavy plate of pure silver and every most-used piece has an extra protective overlay of pure silver at the point of wear. The knives have heavily plated hollow handles fitted to Mirror Stainless forged blades. There is also a guide to proper placement when setting your table for a buffet or informal dinner.

This set is in very good vintage condition, with minimal wear on most pieces. I have given each piece a light polish, so it is all ready for gift-giving. I also have tried to photograph every flaw I could spot, and put those photos on Flickr, so be sure to take a look: http://www.flickr.com/photos/13593021@N00/sets/72157629629919666/ The wooden box has scratches, but the hinges are solid and the inside is in nice shape.

I'll quote from the booklet: "Brand span new silverware is lovely. But, used silverware is lovelier still! For, used, it reflects all the loving care it has received... all the festive occasions and family dinners it has shared. The tiny scratches brought on by washing and handling eventually interlace to form that lovely "patina" -- a symbol of cherished old silver."

Isn't it time you stepped up to some really nice silverware? You'll be able to hand this fine set down to future generations.
