Handcrafted Ballpoint Pen Chilean Lapis
Bright blue Lapis handmade on a lathe ballpoint
Click style pen high quality

This is a click style ballpoint pen (you “click” the end of the pen to retract/unretract the ballpoint). I think of this style pen as an “everyday pen.” It is medium sized and will fit easily in a purse or shirt pocket. It is very much a high quality handcrafted pen

THE PEN
This handcrafted pen is unlike most of the “handmade” pens you may find on similar sites. It has a tough chrome finish that not only looks expensive but is extremely durable. The pen body is Chilean Lapis (trustone). Trustone is real stone that has been powdered and reformed into “blocks” with gem resin so it can be hand turned on a lathe. The harware features components cast, polished and plated with a durable chrome plating, Parker style refill with carbide ball point ink cartridge (available at most better office supply stores).

THE DESIGN
A lot of work went into the making of this fine handmade ballpoint pen. The Lapis was cut and on a bandsaw was cut to fit the pen style. The Lapis was drilled and a brass pen barell was secured and the ends were trimmed precisely. It was placed on my lathe and I carefully shaped the Lapis with carbide tools while keeping the stone cool with clean water. Once shaped, I began the lengthy process of polishing the stone to a glass like finish. This was accomplished by wet polishing with micro mesh. Micro mesh is is a gradual step method in bring the surface polish to a professional finish.

Making high end quality handcrafted pens is my specialty and this pen is definitely a work of functional art!

CHILEAN LAPIS (trustone)
In the New World where lapis has been mined for well over a thousand years in what is now northern Chile, the Moche, a culture that thrived on the desert-like coast of northern Peru from 200BC - 800 AD, were skilled metalworkers, producing body ornaments of gold, silver, copper, and alloys, often inlaying them with lapis. Chilean lapis is real lapis that has been powered and combined with approx. 10% gem resin to get it structural integrity and the ability to be turned and shaped on a lathe. It has streaks of calcite running through the bright blue lapis to make a very high quality handmade ballpoint pen.

Trobee Pens specializes in Lapis pens. Here are other Lapis pens I have made recently:
