This Antique Victorian is in excellent estate condition. Estate Rose Gold, Diamond, and Pearl Jabot pin in 18 karat Yellow and Rose Gold, circa 1870.

A little History-
These pins were originally used to decorate or fasten, a dangling ruffle known as a jabot worn by men on the front of shirts and women on the front of dresses that dates from the 17th century; but as an article of jewelry, it came into its own around the turn of the 20th century, and flourished through the 1930s; a prime piece of Art Deco ornamentation, it was worn on cloche hats, lapels, shoulders and even handbags. Worn by both men and women it has a central pin, that joins two ornamental terminals, one at each end of the stem. One of the terminals can be removed, enabling the pointed end of the pin to pass through the fabric for attachment. The pointed end of the stem that passes under the fabric, is again brought up above the fabric, after a short distance determined by the length of the pin, and the terminal again attached. Thus, when the jabot-pin is worn, the pin stem is hidden, and the two terminals appear separated by fabric. Another name for a "jabot-pin" is "cliquet-pin."Today still represents stature and success. When Princess Margaret's Jewelry Collection went to Auction in June, 2006, a Cultured Pearl Jabot-Pin was amongst the treasures she possessed.

This European made Jabot pin is of superb quality, with hand engraving. Beautifully pave set with seed pearls, this unique piece is a superb example of European design and workmanship and should not to be missed. Encased in the handle or hilt portion of the sword is a banner or ribbon of seed pearls set into yellow gold.
