Silver Coin necklace with Goddess Athena, is a REPRODUCTION silver coin made about 100 years ago, which I set in a sterling silver pendant and a sterling silver chain added to be worn as a necklace.

On the back of the coin you will find the image of an owl which is Athena's symbol.

Size of the pendant: about 26mm (1.1").
Length of the necklace: 46mm (about 18.5").

According to the Greek Mythology, Pallas Athena was Zeus's daughter. She was not born from a woman but leaped out of Zeus's head, all dressed up with her armor.

METIS was Zeus's first wife and she was "the most knowing" of all beings. When she was about to give birth to Athena, Zeus tricked her and assimilated her into his own body. He did so as it was destined that his descendants would be the most brilliant of beings and this was his action to prevent them from robbing him of his high position.

Athena is known as the Goddess of the city Athens, the protectress of civilized life, of art activities, and agriculture.

She was Zeus's favorite daughter.

She is described, in Hellenic poetry, as " the bright eyed".

She is the first of the three virgin Goddesses - Athena, Artemis and Hestia, also known as Maidens - PARTHENOS, from which originates the name of the temple dedicated to her - the PARTHENON.

She is described in poetry as the symbol of Wisdom, Reason and Purity.
The OLIVE TREE was created by her, and the OWL symbolizes her consecrated birth.

In spite of the fact that I always use authentic coins, I chose this silver coin for its beauty, and also because I appreciate the fact that the Ancient Greeks chose a female figure as a symbol of wisdom. While women's ability to contribute so much to our world, women are still underestimated!
