A very unique cast iron trivet from a cupola foundry.

A bit of history: A cupola is a furnace, like a blast furnace, one of the oldest and crudest forms of metal working. However the cupola furnace is fast declining, being replaced by the modern electric furnace,

This trivet is a heavy piece, it's marked on the top with "First in Heat Line 1A Cupola Foundry Feb. 1972 Grinnell Coulomia PA." The trivet has a decorative star design and sit almost flat on the surface, but does have three peg feet. The back is sliver. Some of the sliver can be seen on the sides. There is one tiny chip, on the back side, that can't be seen from the front. I believe this may have been a test piece used in the foundry, and not a traditonal trivet for the kitchen.
Measures: 5 .5 inches across
