Solid Aspen Yarn / Thread Holder. I found the top plate of this unit in a burn pile at a Aspen mill not far from our house. With the figuring on that piece, there was no way I was going to let that go into the fire. I am a 'sucker' for any figuring that sets a piece of wood apart from all others of that type wood. I had to make a unit using it. As with all our units, they are "one of a kind" and the unit you see pictured is the unit that will be shipped to you.

All measurements are approximate and do not attempt to be exact. As with all the units we build, they are one of a kind. The pictures you see are the actual unit that will be shipped.

The post overall from the base surface is 7 5/8". The base is 4 1/2" wide & 1 1/2" thick. Post diameter is 5/8". The post is turned to accept tubes and cones of yarn as well as balls. The large hole in the bottom is for assembly purposes. The top of the post is shaped for easy finger grip to pick up & carry the unit. Because the two parts of the base are connected by the swivel mechanism, the unit can be carried by one hand while the yarn is still mounted. The post unscrews from the base to allow for more compact storage of the unit. Due to the way that the yarn feeds from the outside, it does not twist when knitting.

There are four light colored felt feet. There are four feet for stability of the unit in use and to prevent damage to any fine, smooth surface the unit may be placed upon. The finish is crystal clear acrylic for durability.

The post is secured to the rotating portion of the plate via a 1/4" threaded steel rod. This allows the ordering of additional posts of various widths and/or heights as accessories at any time. Accessory posts would most often be made using Birch Dowels. There is a "Mini Swift Kit" available as an accessory for this unit that handles skeins of yarn up to 48" circumference.

The swivel mechanism is a steel ball bearing "lazy susan". Because the lazy susan uses steel ball bearings sandwiched between two steel plates, the spinning of an empty holder can seem to be a loud rotation. However, I am told by knitters, that the units are very quiet at knitting speeds.

Yarn / Thread is for display only. Not included with the unit when shipped.
