A potential gift for any fan of cars or vintage automobiles. This book does what it says on the front! The contents range from “Acceleration” to “Zirconium”, with lots of lovely diagrams scattered among the pages.

Title: The Practical Motorists Encyclopaedia
Author: F.J. Camm
Publisher: George Newnes Limited
Publication Year: 1941
Pages: 376 plus two pages of adverts for other books.
Size: 13.7 cm x 20.1 cm

This book has navy blue cloth boards with embossed lettering on the spine and front board. The spine is slightly faded and there are a few very faint fade marks on the front board. The corners of the boards are a little worn and bent in and the top of the spine is a little worn as well.

The pages are clean and all are present, the spine is a little cracked in places but the binding is secure. As an encyclopaedia the entries are in alphabetical order and cover a very wide range of mechanical topics.

This book would make a very unusual gift for a father or grandfather, or anyone who likes vintage cars. Please be aware that this is NOT a proper manual on mechanics, and since it dates from 1941 it will not mention airbags, anti-lock brakes, cruise control etc etc.
