Exquisitely hand tinted image of a Miss Campton, photographed by Stebbing. we are particularly fond of Stebbing's work. Incidentally, like a fair number of the big Paris stage performers of the time, Miss Campton was English. She was born Emily Straham Cager in Brighton, in April of 1882. She was apparently a special ladyfriend of Paul Derval, who for many years directed the Folies Bergere. She died at a relatively young age of cancer, in Paris, and was interred in the Derval family tomb.
