In Ancient Greek mythology, Athena and Poseidon both wanted to be the patron god of a new city state. They stood on top of the Acropolis and declared a competition – they would each bestow a gift on the people and the god who gave the best gift would have the city.

Poseidon went first. He threw down his trident and a well of seawater gushed out of the rock. "There's no way you can beat such a generous gift!" he roared.

On her turn, Athena planted an olive tree beside the well, and it gave shade and oil and olives, which the Greeks love. They chose Athena's gift, and named their city – Athens – after her. That same olive tree still grows beside the temple on the Acropolis, and the olive branch has become an international symbol of peace and victory over trident-bearing, bragging opponents.

If Athena had never given the gift of the olive tree, this ring, would be quite plain and boring. Instead, it features an undulating olive leaf and berry design created in the finest sterling silver.

I can create this ring in any size. As this is a wide-band ring – measuring ¼ inches wide (7mm) – I recommend ordering a half-size larger than your usual ring size. If you specify your regular size I will create it a half size larger to ensure a comfortable fit.
