This is a honey bear sitting on a pillow. The bear's hat is adorned with a red tassle. Like dreams, the stories on my pieces are subject to be nonsensical at times. The pillow is inscribed with "In the beginning there was more leisure" There is also a story on the bear about being visited by a ghost in Sopchoppy, Florida. Sgraffito, the carving technique, involves painting onto the clay body and then scratching the painted surface away to reveal the porcelain underneath. It is a time consuming process that only the obsessive would pursue. Where you would normally find the label on the honey bear, decals and gold luster have been applied. Parts of the bear are glazed and shiny while other parts leave the natural sheen of the porcelain exposed.

The bear and pillow molds were cast by me (you can see the plaster cast of the bear in the photo) and then liquid porcelain was poured into the molds to create the final shape. The bear is permanently attached to the pillow. There is a small piece of black felt on the bottom of the pillow to keep it from scratching any surfaces.

3 3/4" x 5 " pillow
2 1/2 " wide bear
2 " deep
