Leather bound copy of the 1887 printing of "An Encyclopaedia of Freemasonry and Its Kindred Sciences: Comprising the Whole Range of Arts, Sciences and Literature as Connected with the Institution" by Albert G. Mackey (HC, 1052 pgs). This is the New and Revised Edition published by L. H. Everts & Co. in Philadelphia with a copyright date of 1884. This version is also contains "An Addendum, Giving the Results of Subsequent Study, Research and Discovery to the Present Time" by Charles E. McClenachan, with illustrations.

The book has condition issues, many of which can be seen in the photos. The leather spine is detached at the back board. The back board is hanging on by a thread. The binding is split at the front board hinge. The leather is well worn, scuffed and scratched. Pages up to the end of the preface are loose but attached and all present, including the engravings of both authors. That aside, the text block is tight and free of marking or foxing.

This is a large (approx 10-1/16" tall, 8" wide and 2-3/4" thick) and heavy volume, the size of an old bible.

The book was the gift to a lodge and the page after the front free end paper includes, in large writing (taking most of the page), the inscription "Lodge of the Ancient Fraternity No. 441 F.+A.M. from <can't make out name> Buffalo, N.Y. Sept. 1894." If you would like a photo of this I would be happy to send it.

The binding is tight and square with the exception of the condition issues noted. The pages are clean, bright and free of any writing/marking.

This is NOT an ex-library copy.

Actual pre-1900 copies of this book are exceptionally rare in any condition and copies of subsequent printings list for considerably more elsewhere.

Please contact me with any questions. I respond promptly to all inquires.

I am an avid reader and collector of books. I appreciate the joy of finding a nice copy of a book and know the disappointment of receiving a book only to find it bears no resemblance to the photo or description. If I have incorrectly/inaccurately described this book I will gladly accept its return and refund the price including shipping. However, the buyer will pay return shipping. I want to connect books with people interested in reading/having them.
