Piece Title: Glass in the Eyes
Year Created: 2012
While building my studio, I decided to remove the plate glass basement window and replace it with a powered vent and operable, screened window. The problem was that the metal frame was so rusted in place that the glass shattered while I was pulling it out… leaving shards on the floor, and in my eyes… I saved the glass, and used it as the inspiration for this piece. The cast concrete face is hand carved and highlighted, then clearcoated to make it stand out from the concrete background. The background gives the impression that the face has exploded out of a window, with the shards of glass bursting radially around it. (Warning: this piece is dangerous and sharp! It needs to be mounted up high enough that no one will run into it, or I can construct an acrylic shadow box at an additional cost if needed).
