This gown is based on the popular En Forreau' dress style from the 1770's where the bodice and skirt at the center back were cut in one piece and pleated to fit. The gown and the matching petticoat are made of an 18th century reproduction print. The cuffs feature a small pleat at the inside elbow and the sides have hidden openings to access pockets. Dresses from this time period were often fastened in the front with straight pins..... for practical reasons, I opted to use snaps instead. The gown can be worn down or tied up with the hidden tapes to form a bustle. The petticoat is historically detailed with front and back ties that form pocket openings at the sides.
This dress is designed to fit the newer 18 inch American Girl dolls, but works well on most 18 inch dolls. The listing includes the gown, petticoat, neckerchief, and a complimentary wood hanger (not pictured).
For versatility, the petticoat can be changed for a whole new look. An additional petticoat can be made to your specifications for $25.00.
Constructions Details: Fabric is pre-washed. All visible seam allowances are professionally finished with a serger except on the Petticoat where the seam allowances are machine finished. The inside seams of the lining, the waistband of the skirt, and the hems are hand stitched. The Gown bodice is lined for extra body and a neat finish. The skirt is hand pleated. The front of the gown closes with 4 snapsensure a snug fit. Fabric for the gown is 100% cotton 18th century reproduction print, the Petticoat is made of 100% Kona cotton, and the neckerchief is 100% cotton batiste.
