Physalis apocarps. Heirloom. A staple in Mexican cuisine. Purple ripening fruits often have a slight sweetness and very productive. 1-1½" fruits with dark purple skin in paper husks. Sharper flavor than green tomatillos, very sweet, great grilled, makes an attractive purple salsa. 3 foot tall plants tend to sprawl. Excellent in jams and preserves, has a high pectin content. Once matured, remove husks and place fruits in sealed plastic bags in the refrigerator. Can keep for 2 wks. May also be frozen whole or sliced. Germination 5-7 days, sowing depth ¼”, space plants 24” apart. Grows 2 to 3 feet tall. 10 seeds.
