Short Story Long:
Turkaman and Bokara rugs are in almost every textile enthusiast's collection. The pattern is simple, yet interesting, and it is an easy pattern to spot if you're a novice rug collector. The Turkaman tribe reside close to the city of Bokara which is now situated in modern Turkmenistan. The tribespeople can also be found in Northeast Iran and parts of Western Afghanistan.
This particular rug is very tightly woven and quite good structurally. It has a small patch on the corner which is seen in picture #5. If also has a replacement binding put on the edges to prevent fraying, and the fringed ends have been overcast as well. The rug has small tidbits of repair here and there, but the rug has no holes or tears and its low pile is worn evenly. This rug has also been professionally cleaned just days ago, so it smells of nothing but fresh wool. This piece would look excellent in a study, or it could be layered over a sisal rug to make it look more contemporary. Enjoy!
