Sometimes the best tool in a potter's tool box is something random he found at a thrift store somewhere that you would have never thought of as a pottery tool. That is how I like to aproach some of my rib tools. This rib is not your normal rib shape, but has all the making for one of those tools that will be a go-to tool for years to come.

This is a beautiful rib tool made from Bethlehem Olive Wood. This wood was cut from olive tree pruning in Bethlehem, which gives it a wonderful story behind the tool. It is a wonderful wood for rib tools, and will be a tool you will use and enjoy for years to come.
I am a potter myself, and much like the work I do on the wheel, I like the story behind the work. I want to drink out of a mug that tells a story about who made it, and how it was made. I want the same from my rib tools. I want to know the story behind the tool and where it came from.

Using a piece of pottery should be an expierence. Eating out of a hand made bowl should help you experience bowls in a new way. The tools your use to make pottery should be that kind of experience as well. I want all of my rib tools to tell a story of where they came from, so that each time you use it, it is something special. I want you to know the wood it is made out of and where it comes from, and be able to see the marks of the saw that cut the wood. That is what makes a tool more than a tool. I hope you can find something more than just a tool in this rib.
