Again, I'm digging deeply into my personal collection to bring you some items not often found. This very high relief cameo is carved from what may be lava, but to me it seems harder than the more typical beige or cream colored lava cameos. This is grey in color.

Exquisite detailed carved face, hair, grapes, leaves, and earrings in the style of a greek or roman goddess with a bacchanialian motif. Perhaps it is Amphictyonis, Greek goddess of wine.

The frame is hand-wrought silver and is 2 1/4" including bale. The cameo is a full 2 inches high by 1 1/4 wide the depth (relief aspect) is more than 1/4". Below the carved head at the very bottom of the stone/lave tiny hairlines, hard to see with the naked eye, but mentioned for full descriptive disclosure. This kind of workmanship, material and hand made frame indicate 1800's or earlier.

I'm including a sterling rope chain that is probably 30 years old.
