If you are a beginner spinner or new to spindling, I highly recommend a 0.6 weight spindle or above.

These make great travel spindles as their tiny size can be packed with some fiber in a small plastic container, purse, or bag. Perfect for carrying with you to the doctors office, kids ball games, camping or any kind of travel.

The spindle you see in these photos is the spindle you will receive, it is already finished and ready to be shipped. We ship all orders the day after we receive them unless it comes in on a weekend (Saturday or Sunday) and then we ship promptly on Monday morning.

Spindle weight 0.5 ounces
Shaft length 4-1/4 inches
Whorl width 2-1/2 inches

Shaft is made of Chestnut
Whorl is made of Bluebonnet

I spin cotton, silk, and many wool blends on my tiny spindles depending on the weight. The lighter weight tiny spindles (0.4-0.5) are best suited for silks and silk blends and are NOT reccomended for beginneers.

The heavier spindles (0.6 - 0.8) can be used for spinning silks, silk blends, cottons and wool fibers. Although, with practice and experience you can spin just about anything on any weight spindle.

A good general guild line is as follows:
0.4 oz.-0.8 oz. will spin a fine lace to finger weight yarn.
0.9-1.4 will spin fingering to sports weight yarn.
1.5-2.0 will spin a sport up to bulky yarn as well as make a good plying spindle.
