Camano Island Vintage is proud to offer this beautiful antique pyralin trinket box. This lovely celluloid box is so thin, lightweight and delicate, I am amazed that it has survived all these many years in such beautiful condition. Celluloid was widely used in the late 1800's to early 1900's as a cheaper alternative to ivory, horn or other expensive animal products but was soon overtaken by the sturdier Bakelite which was not nearly so fragile (or flammable). Items made in celluloid are collectible today and increasingly rare to find in good condition.

This particular item is made from a form of celluloid called Pyralin and the pattern is called Florentine shell due to it's resemblance to tortoise shell. This lovely box is made of the thinnest of thin slice of celluloid, it is flared and round with a round lid. It measures about 4 inches in diameter and about 2 ½ inches tall. It is stamped FLORENTINE SHELL PYRALIN on the bottom.

This trinket box is in good vintage condition. It has no visible cracks or chips but has some light surface scratches.
