Lavishly-decorated mid-century modern trio of cup, saucer and teaplate produced by James Kent under licence to Mikasa and dating to the 1970s.

The semi-porcelain pieces are densely printed in a rich cobalt blue, yellow and red flowery chintz, pattern name of Cathay. The cup is steeply tapered with a sweet angular flower-formed handle. The pattern is under-glaze transfer-printed in blue, and the red and yellow are hand-painted.

The set is in excellent condition with no damage and hardly any wear. The pieces are marked with the Mikasa/James Kent backstamp, pattern name Cathay and number VK201.

The cup measures 7.5 cm/3" high, the saucer is 14.5 cm/5.75" across and the teaplate is 16 cm/6.25". Together they weigh 445 gms, and the estimated packaged weight is 900 gms.
