Fabulous retro mid century modern trio of coffee cup, saucer and teaplate produced by the Midwinter factory in England and dating to the 1960s.

The striking and simple pattern is called Mexicana - broad pencil-straight bands of vertical muted primary colours of red, yellow, green and blue in warm spicy tones. Designed by Jessie Tait for Midwinter, the pattern reminds me of a child's paint box or pencil case - it is bold, colourful and would happily fit into most modern-day settings.

The set is in very good condition with no damage and hardly any wear; some of the paint is smudged on the base of the teaplate - proof that it was hand-painted! The pieces are marked with the Midwinter backstamp, designer name Jessie Tait, and the pattern name Mexicana.

The cup measures 6 cm/2.5" high, the saucer is 12.5 cm/5" across and the teaplate is 16 cm/6.25". Together they weigh 419 gms, and the estimated packaged weight is 900 gms.
