Bowl number 4614 is a hand turned bowl made from Apple wood. Each of my bowls are signed, numbered and dated (year). They are finished with a friction polish that's applied while still on the lathe.

This bowl measures 5 3/4" across and is 1 1/2" high.

Apple - (Malus sylvestris) - Apple wood is hard to find in a size large enough to produce lumber because the trees are usually pruned to keep the fruit low to the ground.

When an American orchard has passed maturity the trees are often bull dozed over and burned.

The Europeans hate to waste anything and will take the log harvest to a local sawmill where they will be turned into a lumber that will delight users for generations.

Apple wood is a fruit tree wood with very fine texture. Apple wood has beautiful creamy sap color with darker light brown heart color

Apple trees are slow growing and normally only cut when they’re no longer useful as a fruit tree.

Like most fruit wood Apple wood is very difficult to dry as it tends to warp, split and crack easily.
