A French Butter Dish is a container used to keep butter fresh and soft without refrigeration. These are such a great thing! Basically they allow you to keep your butter soft and spreadable on the counter but it still taste refrigerator fresh! Plus they are super cute for your kitchen.

I threw this little butter crock on the wheel in two parts. The lid has a deep flange that comes out--or a "bell", and it fits nicely into the bottom dish. I carved this feather design, or maybe wheat design, by hand, and then glazed it in a glossy clear, allowing the creamy color of the clay to show through. The bottom picture is of a different butter dish, to illustrate the piece in use.

Instructions for use are simply to pack your butter into the lid (it fits roughly one stick). Add water to the base, just enough to create a seal with the butter when the lid is placed on top. And wah-la!
When you're ready to use the butter you just lift it off and place it on the table. Be sure to change the water every few days.

This butter dish measures roughly 4.75" w x 2.75" h

Food safe, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe.
