The beads used to make this necklace are made of discarded magazines. They come from Uganda, where a project called Bead for Life employs impoverished women and men to make these beautiful, colorful beads and thus helps them lead a sustainable life.

I find this transformation of discarded paper fascinating and I am thrilled to be a part of the process by turning the beads into jewellery.

No two beads are identical and therefore this necklace is absolutely unique!

The beads are joined by waxed linen thread and the toggle is made of recycled brass, also sourced from Africa.

The Bead for Life project is a member of the Fair Trade federation.

Length: 46cm / 18.1 inch

The necklace will come inserted in a cloth or rice paper bag with a piece of information about the beads. If this is a gift, I would recommend a handmade, fair trade gift box:

I do not include the gift box in every order in order to reduce waste and to keep the price of the item as reasonable as possible.
