Steampunk Goggles - Steampunk Jewelry and Accessories by edmdesigns http://www.edmdesigns.etsy.com

DESCRIPTION:

Here is breath-taking pair of Steampunk goggles by AMERICAN OPTICAL. They are vintage/antique driving goggles. They come with removable double magnifier loupes for an over-the-top Steampunk look. Some people choose to attach the magnifying loupes permanently, but we'll leave this up to you. This amazing pair of Steampunk goggles has green tinted lenses and beautiful rich dark brown leather side shields and leather covering the bridge that gives them an unmistakable Steampunk look. American Optical frames are some of the finest around, and this pair is no exception. Aside from being in outstanding, MINT condition, these glasses are rock solid - it would take a lot to destroy these goggles. The glass is very thick and ready for anything. This is a tremendous pair of goggles.

CONDITION:

LENSES:
This one is pretty easy, as these goggles, manufactured nearly a century ago, appear nothing more than a few scratches and scuffs that should be mentioned. They are nothing short of exquisite for their age. The lenses have some scuffs and scratches. Both lenses have scuff marks in the center, as if they were set down on the lenses on a rough surface, and the right lens has some additional scratches on the lower edge. These scratches can be noticed when you are wearing the goggles as they do catch the light, but they DO NOT prevent you from using and enjoying these amazing relics.

FRAMES:
The frames of these goggles tell the same story. They are gleaming, bright, smooth silver everywhere you look. The frames are in excellent condition, with a bright silver glow. The frames even have extremely fine beaded detailing on the portion around the lenses. Very fine quality. They are strong and solid, with no flaws to mention.

SIDE SHIELDS:
The leather side shields are also in very fine condition. They are a tribute to the quality of the tanning process that was given to such a small triangle of leather back when quality was of primary importance. The leather is definitely creased as these have remained in a folder position for many, many years, but the leather is still buttery soft to the touch and remains supple and flexible in every way. The leather side shields are a rich, dark brown and are supple and flexible. They have some crinkling which gives them a great, aged look. There are a pair of loops on each side that hold the leather to the earpieces, but NOTE, only one loop on each side remains, but is more than enough to keep the side shields and earpieces together. It is amazing that leather this old is in this fine a condition. Refer to the photos for details and you can "zoom" to enlarge.

EARPIECES - ARMS:
The earpieces are bright, strong and straight. They have a brown vinyl-type coating on the portion that goes around your ear for extra comfort and durability. They are springy and adjust to any size and hold the goggles firmly in place while being worn. What else needs to be said...

MEASUREMENTS:
WIDTH: The width is approximately 5-1/4 inches (132mm) wide from hinge to hinge.
HEIGHT: The lenses measure approximately 2-1/16 inches (52mm) high, including the frames.
Please consider the dimensions when selecting any pair of goggles, and if you have a question please don't hesitate to ask.

* Please remember, these goggles feature professional frames and the lenses can be removed and replaced with custom prescription lenses or lenses with a different tint by any reputable optician.

This is an antique pair of goggles dating back some 80 - 100 years and yet it appears as though it was made yesterday. If you have been looking for an exceptional pair of goggles, not only has your ship just come in, it has landed on top of your house. If you have to think about this one, I can't help you, this is a no-brainer.
