This painting draws together images from neuroscience (neural connections in the brain) and Buddhism (the lotus), to express the blissful aura of the well-meditated brain. Recent scientific research indicates that the practice of meditation produces physical changes in parts of the brain associated with memory, sense of self, empathy and stress. Although it's highly unlikely that meditating on the truth in the lotus will actually cause your neurons to look like this, it's a fun idea to express artistically. In soft but vivid shades of blue, from cerulean to indigo.

The painting was done using a batik-like technique. I drew the designs with masking fluid (a kind of runny rubber cement), then painted it with watercolor. After it dried, I removed the masking fluid, exposing the white of the paper.

Overall size 16 x 20 including white mat. Standard size for easy framing. Signed. Absolutely unique.

Beautiful painting that synthesizes neuroscience with a symbol for yoga and mindfulness. Would be great for office, living room, bedroom.

This brain painting of Michele's really spoke to me as an ecologist and researcher. I love it and it fits right in with my nerdy decor, both home and (home) office!

This painting is stunning, even more so in person. The only thing I was disappointed in was the size. I don't know if I misread the description, or just had it in my head that it was bigger, but it is so much smaller than I expected. My husband and I both had it in our heads that this piece was going to be the "showstopper" in our living room; the first thing people would see. It is a gorgeous piece, but it's definitely not big enough to be THE main piece like we had planned. So the biggest thing I can suggest is to read the description very carefully. For the seller, I would almost suggest showing a comparison photo of smaller pieces like this and a sheet of paper so people like myself, who aren't very proficient in buying art, can get a more realistic idea of what a piece will look like in person.
