The Eye of Fatima is a traditional amulet for protection. This altar-cloth lends safety and power to any ritual. It would also make a gorgeous banner to hang as a house protection.

Habotai 8mm. 30" x 30." 100% silk. Painted freehand, initialed and dated by artist.

First I dyed white silk, with low-immersion dyeing, which leaves a mottled effect (interesting texture). I dye a very small number of pieces at a time, usually 3-4. This was a huge batch for me—seven altar cloths. The bottom pic shows all seven hanging on my shower curtain rod to dry. My house is filled with silk drying, items laid out to make talismanic pendants, herbs simmering…

Then I start trance-painting. Once done, I add additional blessings.

If this item calls you, grab it now. It is truly OOAK. I’m almost constitutionally incapable of repeating my designs.

Hand washable.

This altarcloth will lend beauty, grace, and Faerie magic to any altar or ritual.

It is hard to let go of this piece. But though I made it, I know it is not mine, it belongs to someone else. Seeing who buys it will make me happy. I am delighted by how this piece turned out. The pale brown is gorgeous, as is its mottling. And the Hand of Fatima shows some of the mystery I've always felt in this symbol.

I could not take the photos I'd hoped. A lot of my buyers' feedback says my painting is more gorgeous in person. They add that the photos are nevertheless beautiful. It's the difference between any painting and a photo of it. But pics of the Fatima piece represent the piece less well than usual, dang! The colors are sombered (think Victorian), giving the effect of an old treasure, like a banner (though this silk is brand new) displayed by family generations of fortune tellers.
