Short Story Long:
So, I have to come squeaky clean to you crafty etsy people and admit that I did not make this pillow myself. It is older stock from our brick and mortar store, and we've had it in inventory too long. So, since it meets all the etsy vintage requirements, up it goes! Please note that the pillow insert does not come with this, and it is just the case.
Now, down to the nitty gritty and more than you needed to know about rug weaves. This pillow is an excellent case study in different types of rug weaving. It has both flatweave (kelim) and pile weave or knotting. Rugs that have this neat texture resulting from these two different weaves are referred to as Souf rugs. You can see in the picture of the little creature in #2, that the picture extends above the flatly woven background. All the little critters on this pillow are like that. It is very whimsical.
The back of this rug, also known as the "jajeen" is a retro woven fabric. I didn't burn it to test it, but I'm 99% sure that it is cotton. The inside of the pillow is lined too for extra heft. From my best calculations, I date the souf rug frament to the 1970s and (based off of when we bought these for our store inventory) the construction of the pillows to the early 1990s.
And lastly, in case you were wondering why this pillow was beckoning you with its bedroom eyes, it is because this pillow is from the city of Shiraz, land of poets and lovers. Oooh baby!
