Mount St. Helens is an active volcano located 96 miles south of Seattle, Washington. On May 18, 1980, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake trigged the infamous eruption of Mount St. Helens. A large pyroclastic flow (fast moving hot gas and rock) covered about 230 square miles in the area. Nearly all of the mountain’s glaciers melted, creating numerous lahars (volcanic mudflows), while a column of volcanic ash rose 12 miles, carrying ash to 11 states. This vile is filled with volcanic ash from this eruption. This ash is produced when gas inside magma expands and escapes violently, shattering the magma and expelling it into the atmosphere.

This sealed vile is filled with volcanic ash from the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption. The vile is about one inch (2.5 cms) in height with a 17 inch (43 cm) chain. The chain is available in two colors – silver or gold. Please select the color you would like before placing your order.

Each item is packaged in a Science Boutique gift bag.

All items are handmade, so no two are exactly alike.
