ANTIQUE VINTAGE CHOCOLATE SET - This magnificent antique white porcelain Chocolate Set or it could be called a "Tea Set" consists of a pot and four cups. It is generously decorated with an over glaze transfer pattern of roses and vines in muted shades of green, beige, red and pink. The handle, spout and base of the pot are trimmed in hand painted gold gilding. The pot bears the green MZ Austria bird crest mark and signature, along with the number 1003 and name “Biairitz Ros”. The cups are unmarked but have the same flower pattern flowing in a continuous string about their middles and a single rose on the inside wall of the cups themselves. Moritz Zdekauer’s Starorolský Porcelán Factory used the mark stamped on the bottom of the pot on porcelains made in Altrohlau, Austria, from 1884 to 1909. (The mark was changed to “MZ Altrohlau” in 1909, after the firm was purchased by C.M. Hutschenreuther.) This rare set is between 103 and 128 years old, as best I can determine.

Condition: Overall, the set is in good to excellent condition with no chips, cracks, firing flaws or repairs. The striking pattern of roses and vines in shades of green, beige, red and pink on the pot and cups is in excellent condition. The gold gilding on the mouth and base of the pot is worn and missing in some places, but this detracts very little from the elegance of the piece. The very thin gold gilding line on the lip edge of the cups is also worn slightly. This set is for sale in as-is condition.

Dimensions: The pot is 9 ½ “ tall from the bottom of the base to the tip of the finger hold with the lid in place. From the tip of the pot’s lip across to the outer edge of the handle measures 6 ½”. The mouth of the pot measures 3 ½ “ across.

The cups are 2 ½ inches tall, 2” across the mouth and 1 ½” across the base. From the outer edge of the handle across to the outer surface of the cup measures 2 7/8”.
