This pair of little 'worker bee' antique glass fishing floats will brighten your days, your window sills or garden display, reminding you to forget the cares of the day and take a break. The pair are light aqua blue, most of the color being in the basal area and seal 'button', with the body of the floats being primarily clear. Although depending on the lighting and angle, each will reflect a lovely light subtle blue from the periphery of the glass.

Each hand blown vintage float measures 2-1/4" diameter (glass on its own) or 7-1/4" in circumference including the width of its net. Surface wear is definitely normal, these having been hard working little guys. The photos are over all a bit flattering. These are definitely old 'dawgs' that have seen their day. Yet the floats are fully intact with the old high quality glass promising to glow decades longer, in spite of happily having put in 60 to 70 years already. (Shouldn't we all be so lucky!)

The seal 'buttons' can be studied up close in photos #2 and #3. They are each quite different. I find the seals to be forever unique and interesting artifacts, worthy of study. One is primarily oval and quite well formed, beautifully placed. The other is huge, basically round, also well placed. However it has the delicate feel of being a 'jewel' - definitely an 'artifact' - but jewel-like. It's topography is fascinating with all sorts of stuff going on in the glass. Expect some very minor, shallow grazing, on either, but not much. They're in very good condition! And bonus! Each bears 'River Mouth' markings.

This well known, popular old kanji mark - 'River Mouth' (or sometimes called 'Kawaguchi') shows pictorial symbols that take us back to a time unimaginable. Ah, to be an expert historian or great film maker! The 'box' in the symbols represents the opening or portal of the river, with the three parallel or vertical lines showing the flow or movement of the river. (Thanks, W. Pich.) Here you have two that are marked and belong together!

Garden Pair are wearing original, authentic nets in 100% cotton. The nets show natural wear, evidencing their many decades of challenging work and service at sea. Yet they're both tight, fully intact and remain in quite good shape. Notice I included a somewhat unflattering photo (#5) which shows some discoloration (float on the left) in one of the nets. Probably from rust, having been in a dockyard around rusting equipment. The floats look fairly 'pedestrian' in the photo - and indeed they are as mentioned little 'worker bees' - nonetheless endearing in the history and function they performed. I believe they are, above all, symbols of prosperity and hope.

Thank you for helping to care for vintage fishing floats which are rapidly being replaced with plastic or synthetic floats.

SHIPPING: Happy to offer Priority shipping for this float. It will be boxed with extra insulation for protection while in transit. The cost is $9.00. This includes your tracking number and insurance. It will be packed with absolute care. *** Please allow 1 to 3 days to ship and 2 to 3 days for the carrier. You should receive it in a week or less. If you need it quicker, tell me and I’ll ship it fast! ***

COMBINED SHIPPING: Yes - I will combine! Floats of generally similar size & weight can be combined so you save on shipping. These decisions are made at the actual time of packing, using my best judgment to keep items safe from damage in transit, protecting them maximally. Best option is to pay the shipping on each item up front. A shipping refund will be issued promptly via Paypal when your parcels are complete. My customers will confirm I am happy to do this. If this doesn’t work for you, convo for a ‘guesstimate’ on combined shipping of items.

CANADA: USPS has omitted insurance from the economy (1st Class International) shipping category. Priority International is the next best available method yet not cost effective in my opinion, unless purchasing two or three items & combining shipping. Please convo for a quote if interested. My sincere apologies!
